In a world that becomes more unsettled each day, these are the only two prayers you need that will get you through anything:
- Help.
- Thank You.
Pretty simple, no?
Prayers of Help
I’ve prayed help by itself using a barely audible voice. Then I’ve prayed using help in various other ways.
Personal favorites are: Help me to get out of my own way. Help me see as you see Lord.
Then there’s another favorite help prayer: Please help ___________ fill in the blank for any number of persons or entity I pray for.
There are a million ways to use this help prayer: Help me to forgive. Help my unbelief, just to name a few.
Thank You Prayers
Thank you stretches the gamut from thank you for another day, to thank you for all green lights on the way to an appointment, to thank you for this meal, to thank you for your faithfulness.
I love this quote from Meister Eckart who said, “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.”
We live in a society that promotes self-sufficiency. Stand on your own two feet. God helps them who help themselves. (That’s not in the Bible by the way. Some people think so.)
It’s not always easy to ask for help. You will find, however, that most people are eager to help. Our friends and loved ones want to help us. But they can’t if we don’t ask.
God especially wants to help us.
May these simple but powerful prayers transform your mind and spirit as you spend time in dialogue with God.
