In the United States we celebrate Independence Day on July 4th, the day the Declaration of Independence was adopted by Congress.
One of the most famous sentences from that document is:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
July 4th is about freedom. Are you truly free – free from worry, anxiety, doubt, fear, or free to express who you truly are, a unique and precious child of God?
2 Timothy 1:7 goes on to say, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
If you are keeping up on the events in our nation and around the world, you’ll see how freedom has eluded many of our brothers and sisters of color.
A Story about Freedom
Robert and I watch a television program called America’s Got Talent (AGT). It’s kind of ironic, because people come from all over the world to compete, not just from America. We not only love watching the performers but love the stories behind them.
On the premiere show this season, a gentleman named Archie Williams sang Elton John’s song, Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.
Archie is a 59-year-old black man who spent 37 years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. He was exonerated and freed last year.
He told the judge that he visualized himself on AGT when he was in prison.
AGT host, Terry Crews, asked him how he made it through? Archie replied, “Freedom is of the mind. I went to prison but I never let my mind go to prison,” as he pointed to his forehead.
I say that joy and flow are an inside job. Freedom is an inside job.
You Are Free to Choose
This is the Freedom word from God Notes – Daily Doses of Divine Encouragement:
FREEDOM
You yearn for freedom, but you refuse to embrace it.
Holding onto doubt, fear, and suffering keeps you from experiencing freedom.
I have given you My Spirit. In My Spirit is freedom.
You have:
Freedom to choose,
Freedom to love,
Freedom to think,
Freedom from worry,
Freedom from suffering,
Freedom comes with a price. It’s letting go of the world’s limitations to embrace My unlimited potential within you.
Freedom is a precious gift.
Accept this gift and express your freedom with joy.
Use your freedom for good.
As you go into this week, be mindful of God’s Spirit within you. You are free to choose fear or love, free to choose worry or trust, free to choose doubt or hope, free to choose anxiety or peace.
