There are a lot of things that can steal your peace:
- Soaring prices
- Health challenges
- Conflicts with family, friends, and employees/employers
- Uncertainty of any kind
The list goes on.
But God stealing your peace???
Peace is one of the greatest fruits we enjoy in our Christian faith. There is the peace that surpasses all understanding, the peace that guards our hearts and minds, and we know that God is not the author of confusion but of peace.
So, what do I mean?
In John 10:27 is says, “My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.”
But what happens when we don’t pay attention to hear the voice of Jesus, God, or the Holy Spirit?
For 20 years I turned away from my faith. I listened to the voice of the world and followed the material path to success. It worked for a very long time. Until it didn’t. (I share that story on my About Page.)
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God.” Psalm 42:1
God began pursuing me. And like the deer, my soul was panting!
It was uncomfortable. I was restless knowing that not only a few things had to change, but almost everything needed to change! I was not at peace.
But peace did come when I listened.
If I get caught up in all life’s to do’s, when the calendar is dictating my day with responsibilities, it’s easy for the days to blend one into the other.
It’s easy to drift, or to go back to a place of numbness.
But that’s not a peaceful place. And God will cause me not to be at peace left to my own devises.
God will pursue me to return to that place of peace and power that Paul describes in Acts 17:28: “In him we live and move and have our being.”
3 Culprits that Steal Your Peace
If you are not at peace, there are three culprits: 1) Your own mind dwelling on the negative, 2) The devil tempting or telling you lying thoughts, or 3) God (the Holy Spirit/Jesus) wanting you to let go of whatever it is to return to the peace and safety of his presence.
So, which one of these culprits is stealing your peace?
A great way to quiet these thoughts and to listen to God is through meditation. I say that prayer is talking to God and meditation is listening to God. If you particularly need help in letting go, this Letting Go Meditation will help you. Download the Letting Go Meditation for free.
These guided meditations will also help you Be Still, Let Go, and Trust God.
